ICELITH™ is an Icelandic innovation that transforms industrial waste into high-performance synthetic minerals, designed to cut emissions and enable durable, long-term carbon storage.

ICELITH™ is part of OTC, a circular innovation hub south of Oslo, and Iceland EcoBusiness Park.

About ICELITH™ /ˈaɪs.lɪθ/
As Europe accelerates its green transition, two rapidly growing waste streams from renewable energy and infrastructure remain largely unutilized. ICELITH™ aims to transform these by-products into synthetic calcium silicate—a material both scarce and strategically valuable in the European market.

Through a patent-pending process powered by geothermal or hydropower, ICELITH™ produces a COâ‚‚-reactive mineral engineered for long-term carbon storage. This innovation has the potential to drive measurable decarbonization across concrete, agriculture, soil, and turf applications.
Turning Minerals into Carbon Sinks

Enhanced weathering is a natural carbon capture process in which silicate minerals react with atmospheric COâ‚‚ and moisture to form stable carbonate minerals, locking carbon away for geological timescales.

ICELITH™ aims to industrialize and accelerate this process by engineering synthetic calcium–silicate minerals with controlled composition, surface area, and reactivity. By optimizing these properties, ICELITH™ can significantly increase the rate of COâ‚‚ uptake compared with natural rock weathering, enabling measurable and verifiable carbon sequestration.

The goal is to integrate this approach into agriculture, soil restoration, and built-environment applications, turning ordinary materials into active tools for permanent, nature-based carbon removal.
